El camino de Jacques Monod hacia el concepto de “programa genético”

Resumen

En el siguiente trabajo mostraremos cómo la aproximación hacia el fenómeno de la adaptación enzimática entre la década de 1940 y 1950 exhibe una transición desde el discurso de la especificidad hacia la adopción de la jerga informacional en la naciente biología molecular.

Se analizará el caso del biólogo molecular Jacques Monod, ya que representa uno de los principales protagonistas en este período de transición, mostrando cómo abandona su descripción del comportamiento de las bacterias apelando a una reconfiguración de su “ecología molecular”, hasta la gestación del concepto de “programa genético”, producto de la adopción de la jerga informacional proveniente de los ámbitos de la teoría de la información y la cibernética. Esta nueva descripción del fenómeno permite, a juicio de Monod, erradicar explicaciones de carácter teleológico, por lo que considera conveniente reemplazarlo por el de “teleonomía”.
