Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome is a disorder that is highly prevalent worldwide in women of childbearing age. Dietary intake seems to be associated with some of the frequent symptoms present in it. Recognizing this relationship in the scientific evidence is an opportunity to improve the comprehensive approach to care and strengthen interdisciplinary work. Recent literature associates obesity and overweight with premenstrual syndrome, also recognizing that changes in dietary patterns in the population may be pointing to opportunities for counseling aimed at improving dietary intake. Therefore, exploring diet in clients and providing timely information during sexual or gynecological health care may be a strategy to help women manage their menstrual health.
